This meditative cabin will be situated on a beautiful African smallholding on the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range and is exposed to the wildness of Africa. The focus is on inside outside living with ‘larger than life’ glass windows & doors sliding open to invite nature inside. The liveable area of the cabin is wrapped around a central courtyard (covered) with a built-in braai that can be closed off from the elements. The cabin is about being connected to nature, not indoors. The two (with en-suite bathrooms) bedrooms are big enough to be functional yet minimalistic at the same time. The design approach of the cabin was to present a structure with low maintenance materials such as corten steel, concrete and mild steel, giving the cabin a handcrafted feel. Over time, this steel cladded structure will mute in appearance and blend into surrounding farmscape.
