Upon my first site visit I immediately had the idea of a home that grow out of the existing landscape. The garage in the western corner of the homestead is buried, while the three-projecting north & east facing wings have an almost unobstructed 180-degree view of the surrounding meadow. This home takes advantages of everything the site has to offer and the big openable glass facades offer sweeping views of the landscape. The individual wings of the home are connected with glass & steel walkways. Nestled on this beautiful piece of farmland this rugged home provides a safe & tranquil hideaway from the busyness of life. ‘My clients wanted a modern contemporary home that compliments the landscape with a solid concrete base while the rest of the structure should be of glass & steel’. The slightly angled steel roofs cantilevers on all sides in varying lengths providing shaded recreational patios while draping the walls in shade, thus keeping the structure cool in the African sun.
